De-Mystifying Stem Cell Research

This November, the people of New Jersey are being asked to vote on the Stem Cell Research Bond Act. Before you support "stem cell research," be sure to know the basic facts about stem cell research:
  • Embryonic stem cell research is unacceptable – it manipulates and destroys human embryos, disregarding the sanctity of human life.
  • Embryonic stem cell research is unreliable - scientists say that cures or treatments from this research—if they ever happen—are decades away.
  • Adult stem cell research has proven results, and does not involve the destruction of human life.
Certain kinds of stem cell research involve the manipulation and destruction of living human embryos. On the other hand, adult stem cell research (also known as non-embryonic stem cell research) has already resulted in successful treatment for dozens of illnesses, including diabetes, lupus, multiple sclerosis, corneal regeneration, Crohn’s disease and immune deficiencies.
